Huw Roberts - Brief Biog

Huw was born in the seaside town of Prestatyn in North Wales, UK. After much moving around the UK he is now back and living in Colwyn Bay just along the coast.

He was schooled by Catholic priests and had no real interest in any subjects other than Art and English, which he adored. He went to art college to study film and television production.

Following college, no film jobs were forthcoming so he took any job he could find, from factory work, advertising sales and screen printing to selling photocopiers in London in the late 80s.

He wrote his first book, ‘Kamakan the Vampire Slug’ which eventually won an undiscovered authors competition and a publishing deal. He went on to produce this as a live theatre production in 2007 & 2009.

He specialised in theatre and events marketing and has promoted thousands of live productions in Wales, London and Dublin. All the time he kept writing scripts, blogs, poems, songs and anything to keep the keyboard tapping. He is a prolific keeper of things people say and has hundreds of scraps of paper with words of wisdom and general quotes by friends.

He has also worked in technology marketing and the stock market and run a cable car station on a mountain in Wales. His C.V. comes on a scroll and his current apartment is the 78th he’s lived in.

In 2013 he wrote and co-produced a one-man play about overcoming depression called ‘TALK!! – Tackling the Taboo’, starring Bruce Jones (aka Les Battersby from Coronation Street). This was co-produced with Bruce and Steve Williams. It was a powerful production and well received. It is still available to tour if anyone’s interested.

As a musician, Huw writes and performs his own songs acoustically and plays bass in the Ramones tribute band the ‘CB Ramones’. He was recently in the heavy metal band ‘King Boss’.

He is now working on Book 2 of the Ballad of Gee de Bourke.

TALK!! - Tackling the Taboo

In 2013 Huw wrote and co-produced the one-man play 'TALK!! - Tackling the Taboo' with actor Bruce Jones (aka Les Battersby of Coronation Street), who also starred in the production. TALK!! dealt with the topic of depression and was aimed at helping people to talk more openly about the subject.

Huw collaborated closely with Bruce on the script and the production team of Steve Williams and director Ryan Dior.

Kamakan the Vampire Slug

Kamakan the Vampire Slug is an epic children's rhyming adventure - a comedy/horror yarn that won Huw the 'Undiscovered Authors competition 2006' and a publishing deal. Kamakan was illustrated by Shaun B. King.

Huw went on to produce Kamakan as a live production on two occasions: firstly as a one-man show with sound effects and projections, and secondly, as a full family show with puppets, magic and special effects (provided by Magic Light Productions). Both productions featured actor Steve Williams who gave an incredible performance, memorising 40-minutes of rhyme.

A Hip-Hop recording of the story is in production and Huw has written a script for a muscial movie.
